Who We Are

As a historic city on the Rogue River, Gold Hill has a colorful past and a friendly, small town feel. The Gold Hill Community Development Organization (CanDO) was incorporated in the year 2000 to build on this legacy. As a non-partisan, grass-roots, non-profit corporation of motivated volunteers, we use our time and talents to make Gold Hill an even greater place to live!

What We Do

In our brief history, CanDO has already done a lot: We've mobilized residents, worked with the City of Gold Hill, planned events, raised funds, written grants and when necessary managed key projects. Through the years, our activities have included community celebrations like the annual CanDo Fest, July 4th Celebration BBQ, the December Holiday Tree Lighting event, Light Up Gold Hill, WinterFest,Yardin in the Hill and Gold Dust Days Heritage Celebration!

We have sponsored the Hanby Middle School's Holiday Cookie College, a summer youth sports camp and Gold Hill Merchants Association promotions, including the Milk Jug Race. Our members helped fund a network of trails to better access the Rogue River and supported the King of the Rogue event for raft and kayak enthusiasts. In addition, we've written grants for the Gold Hill Sports Park and helped build the Bark Park, tennis courts, public restrooms, the Tom Fish Memorial Skate Park and Great Maggie's Gold Hill Community Garden.

How We Work

These projects and others like them represent many volunteer hours of community fun and connections. We depend on people like you to continue these great projects. CanDO believes that for a volunteer organization to be effective, we get things done with minimal fuss and stress. This means being clear about our priorities, making sure we respect time constraints of our members and energetically taking care of business.

Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky. They are people who say 'This is my community, and it is my responsibility to make it better.'
